⁣Why didn’t Terror Squad have more success during the early 2000s. What happened? Fat Joe began to have success in the industry with 8 years under his belt before founding Terror Squad. He was the most successful latino rapper in rap at the time, until Big Pun jumped on the scene. Pun’s first album went platinum, making him the first latino rapper to do so. Joe also had a gold album the same year. Outside of that early on (later Remy and Khaled) they didn’t have, or push other talent, so after Pun passed away, the group crumbled. A group like terror Squad were a collection of artist that didn’t organically come together, instead you had two dominant figure heads, Fat Joe and Big Pun that came together really to work with each other and so happened to have their own artist they brought with them that moved as a put together unit, similar to State Property of Roc a Fella. Another issue the group were facing was the elephant in the hip hop room that they were latino predominantly, with the exception of “prospect” aka sleepy thug who was half black. It’s not often, especially in the late 90s you saw successful latino groups, so Terror Squad had their work cut out for them, but also a unique opportunity to be the first to do it. By all accounts they did do it, and had some success. Mostly they had huge potential to capitalize on both the black and Hispanic communities had all things go right. Instead their run was short and they quickly fizzled out for these 3 reasons. Let’s talk about it. Make sure you like, subscribe and turn on all notifications so you don’t miss anything. R.I.P BIG Pun.
