At 17, Jeremiah Carnegie noticed that many children in his Newham community couldn’t afford swimming lessons. So he helped 780 of them get in the water for free.

Jeremiah trains every day at the London Aquatics Centre, built for the 2012 Olympics. As he watched clubs from across London use the world-class facility, he noticed something troubling: children from the surrounding community were scarcely represented.

For many local families, swimming lessons were simply too expensive. Jeremiah could have seen the problem and moved on. He was only 17, after all.

Instead, he decided his age was no reason to wait.
