After a severe storm left thousands of Gary, Indiana residents without power for more than a week, food critic Keith Lee has decided to select the city to begin his Midwest food tour.

"We were talking about doing a food tour in the Midwest," he said. "How are we gonna do a food tour in the Midwest and Gary ain't had no power and ain't nobody talking about it?"

Lee contacted the mayor's office and the Salvation Army about traveling there to distribute supplies.

His planned visit will support local recovery while using his platform to draw attention to the community's needs.
