Naomi Whitehead has lived through the Harlem Renaissance, the rise of Motown, the civil rights movement and the election of the nation’s first Black president.
The oldest known living person in the United States, Whitehead celebrated her 116th birthday on September 26 in Greenville, Pennsylvania. Born in rural Georgia in 1910, she grew up on a farm, married Sylvester Whitehead in 1930 and raised three sons. She has held the title of America’s oldest living person since October 2024.
Her family describes her as deeply religious and active throughout her life. Whitehead has said she never smoked or drank alcohol. At 116, her remarkable journey continues to fascinate people around the world.
Show her some love! 🖤
