In 1949, the Tuskegee Airmen dominated the reciprocating engine class at the inaugural U.S. Air Force Weapons Meet. They were undeniable. Yet, for 46 years, their victory was stricken from the record—marked simply as "Unknown" until the historical record was officially corrected in the United States Air Force almanac in April 1995.
True excellence cannot be erased.
We are reclaiming that stolen history to launch the next generation. Today, less than 4% of American pilots are Black. The '49 Initiative is here to close that gap.
