Kowaliga, Alabama — The Black Town Drowned for Profit


They built a town powered by Black genius — a school, a sawmill, a railroad, all funded by the people.

That town was Kowaliga, Alabama — born from the brilliance of William Benson, and fueled by Black excellence.

Then came the water.
They built a dam.
And flooded it.

Now it lies beneath Lake Martin — not by accident, but by design.

This is one of the many towns they drowned to silence us.
But I refuse to let that silence win.
